Netflix hasn’t released a trailer of any kind for the new series yet, but it did put out an overview of just what fans can expect further on in 2017. First and foremost, the series will release in four parts, with each episode running roughly 30 minutes. This particular release is also being billed as “Castlevania Season 1, Part 1,” which would imply that a Part 2 can’t be all that far behind. Even then, followers of the Konami IP and streamable television aficionados alike can take what they will from Netflix’s official description of the show:
IGN followed up on the announcement by speaking with the show’s producer, Adi Shankar (Dredd, The Grey), further prying into the premise surrounding the new show. According to Shankar, the plot will follow the events featured in Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and “is very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones.” Shankar also confirmed that Warren Ellis (RED, Iron Man 3) has written the script for this series and will also be taking on the role of a producer for the Netflix original.
Following comparisons to Game of Thrones, Shankar summarized his artistic take on Castlevania as “R-rated as f***,” which is sure to delight dedicated fans of the franchise. Indeed, given the gothic brutality of the combat and gruesomeness of the creatures that inhabit the world of Castlevania, this claim is sure to have followers of the Belmont clan chomping at the bit for more. Alas, without a firm launch date available, it looks as if gamers will be left waiting a little while longer.
