On their YouTube account, Netflix released a new trailer for the upcoming (as in December 15th, 2022 upcoming) event, a series that will see Sonic and his friends battle Eggman across a Sonic multiverse. Audiences should think of it as the “Into the Sonicverse” of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

Sonic Prime, the new series coming to Netflix this December, will see Sonic and his friends go on a mind-bending new adventure after an accident while battling Eggman causes Sonic to crack open a crystal that causes everyone to enter the Shatter-verse with each member of Sonic’s crew—and Eggman himself—being blown to various alternate universes from which they’ll have to make their way back together if they ever hope to restore things to how they were.

The trailer opens with Sonic introducing himself while running through Green Hill Zone and showing how he and his friends—Tails, Amy, Knuckles, and Rouge—battle the forces of Eggman and his robotic minions. When they venture underground to battle Eggman while he tries to use a mecha-suit to remove a crystal, Sonic runs at him full force, spinning and shattering the rock and sending everyone present off to a new multiverse dubbed the Shatter-verse for the series. Sonic wakes up in a dystopian future ran by an Eggman (maybe the plural is Eggmen) council with robots ruling the world and animals looking dejected.

Sonic realizes there’s something up with his shoes before running into a version of tails sporting a series of mechanical spider-arms coming out of his back and finding out Amy is almost wholly a cyborg now. He runs into Rouge and Knuckles dressed for combat before going on a multiversal flight flown by Tails where he finds a primitive Rouge and Knuckles, a Knuckles leading a crew of pirate versions of his friends fighting Eggman’s robotic navy, and much more all in an effort to put together a crew to stop Eggman and fix what’s broken.

As Sonic and the gang work their way through the various robotic minions of the council of Eggmen, Sonic announces that there’s been, “Enough running. We’re going to fix the world!” As it cuts to the battles happening across the Shatter-verse and the trailer heads to its conclusion, Sonic is seen running in a shimmering blur. Out of that shimmer there’s a glimpse—a brief shot of someone calling his name: “Sonic!” Sonic turns: “Shadow?” Roll credits.

Sonic Prime streams December 15th, 2022.
