Speculation began following YouTuber and reliable Ubisoft leaker xj0nathan’s reveal of a file hidden away in the code labelled “Meteor”, alongside files relating to the two confirmed DLCs and following the same filename conventions. That’s pretty much all that is known for sure at the moment, and although plenty of rumors have swirled around the depths of the internet in the meantime, there’s no guarantee that “Meteor” is even in development. However, another recently-unearthed nugget might shed a speck of light on the situation.

Another interesting bit of code has been flagged by xj0nathan today, detailing what appear to be some stages of a quest that kicks off “after witnessing something fall from the sky.” Apparently titled “A Challenge from the Gods,” it would seem Eivor crosses paths with “a mysterious old lady” who offers to share some secret training tips with them, and that at some point they would need to investigate “the crash site” - presumably the area where the aforementioned “something” landed.

The details of something falling from the sky and creating a crash site certainly suggest a possible link to the rumored “Meteor” DLC, but in many ways the leak asks more questions than it answers. The significance of the unidentified object, what awaits Eivor at the crash site and the identity of the old woman remain shrouded in mystery, though people are more than willing to come up with their own ideas.

Some have theorized that the old lady could be Elli, a personification of old age in Norse mythology who defeats Thor in a wrestling match and proves that even the gods cannot withstand the onslaught of time. Others suspect that the DLC could be concerned with the Norse myth of Ragnarok, an apocalyptic event that ends with the deaths of several members of the Norse pantheon, something that could have a huge impact on the legend-filled world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Whatever the truth behind the mysterious “Meteor”, it might be a while before it fully comes to light. Ubisoft has already announced a delay to Wrath of the Druids, Valhalla’s first DLC, and if that has knock-on effects for its Siege of Paris DLC and any other updates, it could be months before anything even gets officially announced about “Meteor.” Nevertheless, fans remain vigilant and hopeful for further news, keeping an eye on the skies to see what might come falling.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
