Back in August, Back 4 Blood unleashed its Children of the Worm DLC, the second major update for the game. Before that, there was “Tunnels of Terror,” and both of these expansions offered new PvE experiences and additional goodies. Now, the next major patch is just around the corner.

Over on the Back 4 Blood Steam page, some details have been given about the third DLC, which is due out December 6. The biggest addition will be the brand-new story campaign, which will come with five maps and some new “enemy threats.” There’s also a new Cleaner being added to the roster called Tala. Described as a former cultist, Tala will be accompanied by a “friendly ally,” which will actually be a Tallboy that the team can call on for assistance. As well as the new campaign and Cleaner, there will also be new weapons and weapon skins, character skins, accessories, cards, and more.
In general, it sounds like fans have a lot to look forward to in the new Back 4 Blood update. When the game released late last year, many were critical of the finished product, particularly noting the unforgiving gameplay even when playing with others. While Turtle Rock Studios has attempted to nerf this difficulty, an earlier update for Back 4 Blood actually added an even harder mode, evidently for those players who wanted something even more challenging.
For a lot of fans, the upcoming “River of Blood” DLC will be enticing enough to keep playing, while possibly encouraging others to return to the game. It’s unfortunate that Back 4 Blood went down as a disappointing game when it released, unable to leave a lasting impression on those who fondly remember Left 4 Dead. It doesn’t seem to have deterred the developer though, which is diligently working hard to keep the game up to date, as well as implementing new ideas.
Back 4 Blood is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
