YouTuber Arrekz Gaming has tested the new legendary rocket launcher in Borderlands 3 that is known as the ION CANNON. This Vladof manufactured rocket launcher charges up a single powerful shot and sends out a beam projectile upon release of the trigger. This firing mode can be compared to something like a rail gun. In testing, the weapon can kill pretty much any enemy in a one shot and becomes more powerful with each kill. In the case of Arrekz Gaming, he found that the weapon has dealt up to five million damage when testing against Mayhem 4 enemies.

The weapon is not really a super boss melter but it can definitely hold its own against certain bosses. Although it is a rocket launcher and has limited ammo based upon the player’s choice to purchase more rocket launcher ammo slot deck upgrades, it is very ammo friendly. Consuming one ammo per shot to kill pretty much anything as well as anything in the immediate vicinity due to splash damage seems fair.
A benefit to obtaining this launcher is that it is a guaranteed drop from the Fabricator Mk II boss. Players can encounter this boss at the end of the Jack’s Secret section of the Handsome Jackpot map. Players should bring corrosive and shock weapons as the Fabricator boss has both shields and armor.
On Mayhem 4, some players struggle to kill enemies and are constantly changing their build to compensate for the health increase of enemies. Finding gear that works well on Mayhem 4 can be tedious, but with the use of the ION CANNON, players can one-shot a lot of enemies in the game.
The weapon is satisfying to use and some players are fearful that Gearbox may nerf the launcher. It seems unlikely as with the limited ammo, the weapon is situational and there is more ammo cost preserving ways of slaughtering tons of enemies like with an anointed Night Hawkin or Maggie pistol.
