You may recall our story from August 7, in which Ashley Gervais reported that Internet sleuths had scoured existing Borderlands DLC code on the PC, revealing details about the new expansion pack. Adding credence to their findings were tweets and interview-quotes from Randy Pitchford, President and CEO of Gearbox. Combining these info-nuggets suggested that the new DLC would apparently feature a new ‘Ninja Assassin Claptrap’ antagonist, and a whole host of zombie cyborgs – in this case, dead people fused with Claptrap parts.
Here’s what the Take-Two update tells us in in store:
The Borderlands franchise has thus far been a strangely successful beast. As the game arrived on store-shelves mid-way through last year, its visual design and central game mechanics had already undergone serious course-changes during development. Also, with Borderlands at the time being an entirely new and untested IP, it gained its popularity primarily through word of mouth.
Borderlands’ gameplay and its ability to tap into the loot-fetish mindset so many gamers exhibit is the game’s initial draw, yet it is the quality of its DLC that sustains the title well beyond that of any other action-RPG currently on the market. Assuredly Gearbox have learned lessons, both good and bad, in the previous DLC packs The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot and most recently The Secret Army of General Knoxx that will no doubt improve this newest expansion pack.
Unlike most of you, I’m a very recent convert to the church of Borderlands. I am currently murdering my way through Level 12, so I am most definitely behind the times here, but it is great quality DLC like the aforementioned, and the promise of great future content alike that solidifies in me the desire to push through the less-pleasant aspects of Borderlands, and continue playing, safe in the knowledge that I am in it for the long-haul. And Claptrap is just adorable, no?
What about you guys? Are you Borderlands fans? Are you guys looking forward to Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution?
