Yūki Yaku’s Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki light novel series began serialization in 2016 under Shogakukan’s Gagaga Bunko imprint. The novels are illustrated by Fly, and have amassed 9 volumes throughout the series’ run do far. The light novel has inspired a manga adaptation, manga spin-off, and anime adaptation.

The manga adaptation ran in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine from 2017-2021, and was illustrated by Eight Chida (Hanasaku Iroha, Girls Go Around), amassing 6 volumes during its run. The Minami Nanami Wants to Shine spin-off currently runs in Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X magazine and is illustrated by Bana Yoshida (I can’t change my mind for Mr. Yano!). The series began serialization in 2020 with 2 volumes released so far.

A 12-episode anime adaptation was released during the Winter 2021 season, with 2 OVA episodes released in May and June 2021. Project No.9 (Higehiro, High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World) animated the series, with Shinsuke Yanagi (CHOYOYU!: High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World!, And you thought there is never a girl online?) directing, Fumihiko Shimo (Clannad ~After Story~, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya) handling the screenplay, and Hiromi Mizutani (Non Non Biyori, Tanaka-kun is Always Listless) composing.

Yen Press publishes the light novel and Minami Nanami Wants to Shine spin-off in English, while Comikey digitally distributes the manga adaptation. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired alongside an English dub.
