In the next Minecraft title update, this is set to change with the introduction of the ocelot, and a few other features which we’ll list below.

The ocelot is said to dwell in the brand new jungle biome, which will also be released in the next update. As shown in the video below, it’s a pretty playful looking critter which can navigate the jungle terrain quickly.

Rumors floating around suggest that to tame an ocelot, the player has to catch a fish (finally, the fishing rod gets some attention!) and hold it out while near one of the critters. It’ll slowly turn and look at you, and right-clicking will feed the fish to the mob – the same way players potentially get wolves to start following them. We’ll confirm this once we find some of our own to test it on!

There’s no doubt about it – the ocelot is certainly a cute little critter, and cat-lovers will be happy to have a more feline companion with them. We’re not saying there’s anything wrong with wolves, but out of nearly 20 million registered users, there’s bound to be some cat lovers out there.

Among other things due in the next update, Mojang mentioned a brand new “flame item” which can be used, though we have no idea what it could possibly be. They’ve also added an experience item to Creative Mode, which is certainly a mysterious item to add to the simplest mode of the game. We’ll keep you posted as the official Minecraft 1.2 update nears full release.

Here’s the full change list for the upcoming patch:

What do you think of the ocelot and the jungle biome? What other creatures would you like to see come to Minecraft?
