Netflix revealed in a letter to shareholders that it plans to offer video games to existing subscribers at no additional cost, viewing gaming as “another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV.” The streaming service said it initially plans to focus on games for mobile devices. The Associated Press reported that the first games released would be tied to original programming on the platform, so we could see a Stranger Things game or an Ozark game....

In the teaser released by Netflix earlier today, key figures from the show’s production staff such as executive producers Dave Wasson and CJ Kettler very briefly discuss the show’s production, while short clips of animation and storyboards are also showcased, giving viewers an impression of how the show will be animated compared to the video game. During a recent interview between Nintendo Life and Shankar, the Castlevania producer confirmed that the scripts for the next season were already complete and presumably ready to move into the next phase of production. Devices that can track heart rates and step counts are now common in watches and cell phones, but a new type of wearable is being developed to go deeper, measuring “dietary biomarkers” in the body and sending that information to an app. The nutritional data will let users see how their bodies respond to different foods and help them to personalize their diets, according to the Australia-based team. Described online as the “world-first personalized nutrition wearable,” the patch, which is attached to a user’s arm, is being made by tech start-up Nutromics, alongside RMIT University, Griffith University and manufacturer Romar Engineering....

Given the overwhelming success of the amiibo line thus far, one would imagine that GameStop would expect a stampede of fans trying to pre-order. That wasn’t the case. GameStop announced that the website would be ready to take amiibo pre-orders starting at 2 p.m. CT. However, the site crashed shortly after it opened for pre-orders, and was almost immediately placed into maintenance mode. While some fans tried to bypass the website by pre-ordering amiibo in person, many found that they couldn’t, since GameStop’s internal systems crashed as well....

According to Henderson’s information, the new Battlefield 2042 beta dates will be October 6 for early access and October 8 for the open beta. The Battlefield franchise began in 2002, focusing on first-person shooting and historical battles. Over the last 18 years, the franchise has built an impressive reputation and has become very profitable. With that said, Battlefield 5 was a commercial disappointment despite selling over 7 million copies. Clearly, the series has high commercial expectation and players of the series expect quality games. Time will tell whether this DLC can deliver the quality that is anticipated from players, but early signs are positive....

The news of a new Call of Duty mobile games comes from a King job listing for a level designer in Stockholm. “The aim is to create a Call of Duty experience on mobile, while also breaking new ground for mobile and redefining the genre,” explains the listing, adding that this new game will be “fresh, social, and highly accessible, while providing a very authentic game experience.” The hired candidate’s role will involve creating and refining new and existing levels, including balancing them and ultimately ensuring that the game is fun to play....
